Kajol was born in the Mukherjee-Samarth film family in Mumbai. His mother Tanuja is an actress and his father Shomu Mukherjee was a film director and producer. His father Shomu died in 2008 due to cardiac arrest. Kajol’s younger sister Tanisha Mukherjee is also an actress. Her aunt Nutan was also an actress and her grandmother Shobha Samarth and great grandfather Ratan Bai were both associated with Hindi cinema. His paternal uncle Uncle Joy Mukherjee and Deb Mukherjee were both film producers while paternal grandfather Sashadhar Mukherjee was a film producer. Kajol’s brothers and sisters include Rani Mukherjee, Sharbani Mukherjee and Mohnish Behal, all involved in Bollywood.
